Blue Boy Bachelor Button

The Bachelor Button Blue Boy, ‘Centaurea cyanus’, displays sky blue flowers that are attractive as cut or dried flowers. The Bachelor Button Blue Boy, also known as Cornflower, has other admirable traits including drought tolerance. Bachelor Button will “naturalize” the seed the plant drops. It readily comes back the next year to produce another crop of blue flowers. In warm climates, plant in summer to early fall for winter bloom. Remove spent flowers to extend the bloom season and increase the flower size.

Beefstake Tomato

The Bald Cypress, Taxodium distichum, is a lofty, deciduous conifer of slender, pyramidal habit. A stately tree, for parks, yards. Landscapers and land owners use this tree in wet areas. Bald Cypress trees have moderate water requirements. The needle like leaves are dark green in the spring and summer. The “cypress knees” only develop when grown in or near water for most of the year. This species is very adaptable to wet and dry sites and thrives in many soil types.

Lemon Licorice

The Licorice, Lemon Licorice, ‘Helichrysum petiolare’, is a pale lime plant that lets you do a little to get a lot. Licorice plants are exceptionally easy to grow, requiring little fertilizer. The Lemon Licorice is restrained grower with velvety soft foliage. It’s especially useful in mixed containers as it tends to grow outward which makes a planter or basket look larger. Licorice do best in a well drained soil, either in beds or containers. Lemon Licorice produces small white flowers that are insignificant and can be removed.For zones 9-11, this plant can also be a perennial.
